This was part of November 7th's reflection by Elizabeth Duffy in Living Faith, but it is a good reminder on any day:
Our fitness for eternal life with God is not based on how much we accomplish, but on how much we love our neighbors and ourselves. And God knows, we don't come by love naturally. Human love is imperfect. We can't conjure it from our own hearts. We don't even love God as much as we would like, much less our enemies.
But if we go to the banquet, if we receive the Eucharist, we receive not just food but love itself. Love for God is a gift from God. Will we be present to receive it?
