God's voice in a whisper

Here is an excerpt from the 1st reading for today (1 Kings 19:9, 11-16):

At the mountain of God, Horeb,
Elijah came to a cave, where he took shelter.
But the word of the LORD came to him,
“Go outside and stand on the mountain before the LORD;
the LORD will be passing by.”
A strong and heavy wind was rending the mountains
and crushing rocks before the LORD—
but the LORD was not in the wind.
After the wind there was an earthquake—
but the LORD was not in the earthquake.
After the earthquake there was fire—
but the LORD was not in the fire.
After the fire there was a tiny whispering sound.
When he heard this,
Elijah hid his face in his cloak
and went and stood at the entrance of the cave.

We often look for God's voice to manifest itself in some large, flashy way, like a bolt of thunder. Like in this scripture passage, however, God's voice is often much quieter, a whisper even, and we need to be quiet as well to hear it.

Where is God's message for you today?

I heard God whisper to me on my vacation a few weeks ago.
My husband and I have been having troubles the last few years, and I went on this bare-bones camping trip with him almost as a last chance or hope. I love camping. Anyway, as I was sitting on the back of the motorcycle, my eyes closed, wind whipping at my face - almost a centering experience, and I heard God tell me in a rather loud whisper, "I put you on this earth to be with Brian" And so it is. He answered my prayer.

God spoke to me in a very gentle whisper in reference to my husband as well. I had been struggling with feelings of unhappiness and discontentment and didn't feel my husband was the right man for me. God spoke to me one day while my husband and I were having lunch together. He said "take care of your husband." WOW..all I could do was tell him what God had said, grab his hand and walk away with the reassurance that everything was going to be okay.
