Her Darkest Hour

Her Darkest Hour

Mary sits, holding her dead son as she once held him as an infant. She is in utter pain, suffering the deepest hurt a mother can experience. Yet, even in the darkness, the light is there. God is there - with Mary and with us when all seems lost. This is not the end of the story.

An exceptional piece of art, Patrice. This does capture that dark moment with reverence, solemnity and care. I found it interesting at first and after I thought about it, refreshing that you did not use grey. Grey is the color of ashes and sack-cloth - of true death. Yet, you chose dark purple and blues. Those while subdued by the moment are not always that dark. They have the capacity to grow vibrant once again, as the Blessed Virgin did and as Jesus will do shortly after that scene. Finally that little hint of yellow in the background. Yes, it could be the light from outside the tomb, but it could also be the light of a mother for her son which we know is always there - without regard of circumstance. This is an excellent job, once again, Patrice.
