January 7 - Our Lady of Grace - Faenza, Italy

Our Lady of Grace is the patron saint of Faenza, Italy and its diocese. Mary has been venerated under this title since 1412. The people were suffering from a plague and begged for help. Mary appeared to a woman assuring her she would act as a mediator with Jesus.

The image of Our Lady of Grace features Mary in the act of breaking arrows, symbols of the plague for which Mary offered protection. The fresco that depicts Our Lady of Grace was originally placed in the Church of St. Andrea but was moved to the Cathedral of Faenza in 1760. Many people in Faenza have ceramic copies of the image embedded into their home walls.

Prayer

Our Lady of Grace, pray for us to have protection from sickness and plagues in our own lives.

Reflection

What do you need Our Lady of Grace to ask her son to protect you from? Can you imagine those things as arrows and Mary stopping them before they reach you?
